Feature program: The Engineering and Design Institute (TEDI-London) Summer School

The PLuS Alliance is a partnership combining the strengths of Arizona State University, King’s College London and UNSW Sydney to address and solve global challenges in sustainability, health, social justice and the responsible innovation of advanced technologies.

Each year selected students from each of the PLuS Alliance universities come together to take part in an exclusive summer school program. The intensive three-week program at TEDI-London, empowers students to explore and develop sustainable solutions to society’s global challenges.

During the 2022 summer school, students worked in teams to create innovative, workable and commercially practical urban farming initiatives to help solve the world’s food shortage crisis.

Over three weeks, students developed their ideas and designed concept prototypes to present to their peers, industry partners, local community members and their teachers. The final designs included sustainable entertainment and community garden precincts, an information-sharing app, interactive education initiatives and a robotic gardening assistant.

PLuS Alliance Exchange

“We really enjoyed having the opportunity to come up with our own solution and seeing how much can be achieved in a short space of time when a group of people come together to carry out a common goal. It was eye-opening to work with a team where each member had a different skill set and background. It brought together lots of different perspectives and ideas which really shone through in our project work.”
